Unused Home Repair Products Can Be Hazardous to Your Health
Before you tackle your next home repair project, take a moment to ensure that the products on your shelf are safe to use. Every year, scores of homeowners and consumers are injured or killed because they unknowingly use products that have been recalled by the manufacturer and/or the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Such recall efforts are often ineffective and go largely unnoticed, until it is too late.
You may search the Internet for instructions on how to perform your home repair, but do you check to see if the unused products in your home are still safe? When you buy a new product, you would hope that the store has removed recalled products from their shelves. When buying product new to the market, it is a good idea to search the internet for information about hazards or problems experienced by other consumers. Manufacturer recalls are routinely issued through product safety alerts and recall notices on TV, radio, newspaper and Internet websites, as well as the CPSC’s website. Be proactive about keeping yourself appraised of product safety issues.

They also list over 4,000 product recalls and recall alerts. Watch for recall notices in stores such as Home Depot and Lowes to stay informed. Before you begin your next home repair project with that unused home repair product, take an extra minute to protect your health by checking for product recalls.

Most of us live very busy lives. We don’t have a lot of spare time left at the end of the day to do jobs or tasks around the home so we put them off and put them off. In general terms, home renovations are simpler and easier than home repair. However, the former may not always be the more cost effective option. There are certain home improvement situations where home repair is the more cost effective alternative. For instance, it is not practical to replace a home feature which you have been using for more than 10 years already with a new model that has a service life expectancy of only 5 years. In which case, you may have to exhaust all possible options and perform home repair in order to restore the old home feature to its original level of performance and function.
Surely, you will not be inclined to opt for home renovation if you find that the best replacement option has a life expectancy which is significantly shorter than the years of service of the present home feature. This is not to say that older versions are better than their modern counterparts nor are we saying that home repair is better than home renovation in all instances. The thing is that we also must have to factor in other variables such as design updating and cost comparison in our home improvement decisions.
Our choice whether to do home repair or home renovation will have to be based on the results of our detailed assessment of the home improvement project. We have to carefully analyze which option will result to the upgrade in the performance efficiency and ultimately add value to our real estate property. We also must be able to set the priorities of the home improvement project. Will it be aesthetic appeal or efficiency? In the final analysis, the cost consideration and the goals of the home improvement project will have to be factored in our decision whether we are going for a home repair or home renovation.

A central room of any home, the kitchen is one of the few spots in a home that gets constant use in a number of diverse ways. You know what you want, whether it’s more counter space or a pantry that is a little out of the way, so be sure to communicate that so that disappointment can be avoided.
On the subject of contractors: it is wise when it comes to a home renovation as extensive as a new kitchen to go with a professional. Most regular people, even those who are handy, are not up to the challenge of doing a whole kitchen. But it is just as possible to be bad at choosing a contractor. Rookie mistake number one is thinking that cheap can equate to good. Think of this when it comes to choosing a contractor: you actually have three options. Fast, cheap, and good. But the problem is, only two of those options can be combined at once. This is an excellent rule of thumb, and these words are actually words to live by. If you want it done fast and good, it will not be cheap. If you want it done good and cheap, it likely will not be fast. You get the picture.
However, even if you have a contractor who gives you a reasonable time estimate for when your kitchen renovation is going to be done, you might want to factor in some wiggle room for this. Do not get your hopes up that things will be on time, but also do not let a contractor walk all over you and needlessly drag things on and on. There are logical reasons why something would take longer, so educate yourself on what they are. And always be sure to have 10 to 20 percent extra budgeted aside for the costs of the repair, or be sure to have it written into your contract that it cannot exceed a certain cost. This way, things cannot spiral out of control financially.
